GENERAL

Poet, author, magician, puppeteer, storyteller, journalist or stand up comedian? Nick is all of these and far more. With over 4500 school visits under his belt, Nick is one of the UK’s leading performance poets and most prolific writers of children’s poetry. Famous for his ‘Million-Miles- An- Hour Show’, and his creative writing workshops, Nick has inspired children of all ages (3-18) from Birmingham to Borneo and has just published his latest anthology of poems entitled Dragons are Back

We have the privilege of hosting Nick at GIS on Monday, November 25. All elementary students will be attending a presentation by Nick. Parents of GIS students are welcome to attend (see Google form below). The event will take place on the 3rd floor of the library. There will be 3 sessions for elementary students:

  • 9:00 – 9:45: Grade 3 & 4
  • 10:05 – 10:50: Grade 5 & 6 
  • 11:45 – 12:30: K – Grade 2 

We will have a limited number of Nick’s books for sale if you or your child are interested in purchasing one. Please fill out this Google form if you plan to attend the even.

*New* Tan Chin Tuan Scholarship for Rising Seniors (Current G11) | dsa.office@gisthailand.org

Grace International School, in partnership with the Tan Chin Tuan Foundation of Singapore, seeks to promote and reward educational excellence in academics, athletics, leadership/community service, and the fine arts. This scholarship honors excellence to rising seniors by providing financial scholarships to help towards tuition at either GIS or the university of their choice.

The scholarship application opened on October 4 and must be completed by 8:00 am December 9, 2019, to be eligible. This is a reminder to not wait until the last minute. Besides the possible financial reward, if you win, the experience of applying is valuable for future scholarship applications and for college itself. Here is the link to the application.

Have a baker in the house? Amazing salsa recipe? What about making a mound of kimbap? The Christmas Market is looking for a few more vendors to sell food items. Earn a little extra cash for the holidays, tables start at 50 b!  Also, if you want to sell other items, It’s not too late to sign up to sell at the Christmas Market at GIS: Saturday, December 7th 10am – 2pm. Vaccination Available Nov 26 nurse@gisthailand.org

GIS Nurse Office is able to offer monthly vaccination services in partnership with a local Thai doctor. Visit the Health Services website for complete information and forms. Please note completed payment at the Nurses Office confirms a vaccination appointment. It requires at least 2 days to process the information before the appointment.

Heads up! This year Ministry day is Friday, Dec. 6. Students will be planning and prepping this month in Homerooms. Keep an eye out for more information! (Date was changed from Nov. 29)

School pictures are right around the corner. Please have your son/daughter wear his/her navy blue polo for picture day. Here is the schedule:

  • Nov 18 – Mon: 7th & 8th Grade
  • Nov 19 – Tues: 9th & 10th Grade
  • Nov 21 – Thurs: 11th Grade
  • Nov 22 – Fri: 12th Grade
    • A note to Seniors & Parents: Nov 22 is a Tiger Pride Day (Ancient vs. Futuristic) – make sure Seniors arrive in their navy blue polo and they can change into their Tiger Pride apparel after the picture.

 

  • Nov 26 – Tues: Make-up day for those who missed 

*New* College Admissions Recommendation Letter Deadline – December 5 | counselor@gisthailand.org

Since January 1 (common admissions deadline) is during the GIS Christmas Break that begins on December 21, we are making December 5 the last date that a teacher can be asked to write a letter for a college application that is due on January 1 or 15.

Drama Auditions for Grades 9-12 | lholley@gisthailand.org

Got drama? Auditions for this year’s production of “Pygmalion” will be on November 21, from 3:30 – 5:30 in S210.  Auditions are open for grades 9 – 12. “Pygmalion” is a romantic comedy that tells the story of an unruly, Cockney flower girl who is transformed into a genteel lady by a cantankerous, blunt professor. Come with a minute to two minute long memorized monologue to perform. Students may see Ms. Holley if they need help finding a monologue. Break a leg!

ELEMENTARY

All elementary students will have their picture taken during the week of November 18 – 22.  We apologize but these pictures will only be used for school purposes, they will not be for sale.  Please have your child wear their navy blue polo on their designated picture day.

We have accumulated quite a few things in our lost & found basket in the atrium.  Please make sure and label food containers so that we can return lost ones to their owners.  Feel free to come by and look for your lost things.
