GENERAL

*NewPoor Air Quality Days Recommendation | nurse@gisthailand.org
Even though we have air purifiers in the classrooms and make accommodations for recesses when the air quality is poor, it is still a good idea to be protected to the best of our ability when outside.  Therefore, it is highly recommended that all students wear face masks when outside on poor air quality days. The GIS nurse’s office recommends N95 face masks because they have the ability to filter PM 2.5 (particulate matter).  Please contact the nurse’s office if you’d like information on where to purchase these air masks.

SECONDARY

*New* Heads Up – Standardized Testing | counselor@gisthailand.org
Starting this year, we are using standardized testing in grades 8 & 10 to gather data to improve teaching and learning. This will also inform students’ post-secondary readiness and provide parents with data to track their child’s learning growth. We are using the College Board’s assessments – PSAT 8 & PSAT 10. All full-time students in grades 8 & 10 will be required to take these exams on the following dates (no cost):

  • PSAT 8 – February 24
  • PSAT 10 – March 16

More information to come!

End of Semester 1/Q2 & Exam Schedule | secprincipal@gisthailand.org
Due to the delayed start of the school year, this year Semester 1 will end on Friday, January 24. Final exams will be Jan. 21-24. The schedule can be accessed on the Secondary calendar here.(FYI from the PSMO Handbook: Semester exams for grade 9-12 students or students taking a grade 9-12 level course are given at the end of each semester according to the schedule determined by the Principal (typically the last 4 days).  Courses in the following areas will have semester final examinations: English, Social Studies, Mathematics, Science, Foreign Language, and Religious Studies. Other courses may or may not include final semester exams.)

Notes:

  1. All secondary students (7-12) are required to leave campus after finals/classes are completed for that day at 11:30am.
  2. All Secondary students (grades 7-12) are required to wear school uniforms during finals week.
  3. In most courses for grades 9-12, as indicated in the PSMO Handbook, an exam will be given at the end of each semester. If a student does not have a final exam in their class(es), they do not need to come to school.
  4. Grades 7 & 8 will run a block class schedule that follows the exam schedule on the calendar.

If, due to transportation issues, a student needs to be at school but doesn’t have a final (G 9-12), they are permitted to study in provided classrooms.

*New* Friday is Tiger Pride Dress Up Day | jmckeown@gisthailand.org

ELEMENTARY

*NewElementary Subs Needed | mkennedy@gisthailand.org

Elementary is in need of more substitutes for our teachers and teacher aides.  Don’t worry – you don’t need to be a qualified teacher to sub. When our teachers are absent they leave very comprehensive instructions for subs to follow.  If you don’t feel comfortable teaching, how about subbing for one of our teacher aides, they assist in the classroom and on the playground. Subbing is a great way to get more volunteer hours.  Contact Michelle Kennedy if you are interested in helping in this way. Feel free to specify what days you are available and if you’d prefer to only sub for teacher aides.
