Listen to our latest Podcast – Belonging| ddunn@gisthailand.org
At Grace, we want to make sure that there’s a place for everyone in our community. We want our students to feel happy and comfortable at school. Here on our latest podcast, our DS Executive Assistant talks about the belonging initiative started at our school to identify the gaps and help us grow in this area. Annual Belonging Climate Survey⼁ds.office@gisthailand.org
On March 27, we will send out the Annual Belonging Climate Survey once again to the entire community. This will include all of the Secondary Students, Grade 6 Students, All Staff (Thai and Non-Thai), Parents, and Alumni. The goal is to use this survey to gather data regarding belonging within the community.
We want to see if there have been any changes in either direction since last year. We also want to determine if there are areas that we can continue to improve or provide interventions within.
We hope to conduct this survey every year to get a snapshot of the belonging health of the GIS community and use this data along with small groups and forums to continue working towards a thriving community that truly represents the two great commandments in Matthew 22:37-39. ‘Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. ‘

Songtaew Student Safety | coo@gisthailand.org
Songthaew Family Parents, we need your partnership to keep our drop-off and pick routine safe and orderly. There have recently been a few instances of students running and chasing each other in the songtaew sidewalk area while waiting for their songtaews immediately after school. In addition, when the songtaew leader tells the students to “Go, Go, Go,” some students continue to talk, and they are not getting into their songtaews, which delays the students’ departure. We are requesting that you remind your children to respect other students and the songtaews drivers, ensuring that all students can get home safely and on time.

Save the Date! Worship Night — Wed., Feb. 22, 7-8:30pm, GIS Cafeteria — “Costly Grace” | spirituallife@gisthailand.org
Every year, we schedule a worship night on Ash Wednesday, the annual beginning of the season of Lent at Grace International School. Any student in Chiangmai from grade 7-12 is welcome, as are parents, but no students below Grade 7 should attend, please!
Ash station available for G7-12 students this Wednesday at school & worship night
As Lent begins with Ash Wednesday this Wednesday, Feb. 22, G7-12 students and staff will have the opportunity to receive a cross in ash on their foreheads at the beginning of school or during our worship night if they choose, given by student leaders of our Chapel Core Team. This beautiful, ancient Christian tradition symbolizes our need for Jesus’ forgiveness and the hopeful power of Jesus to restore us to life through his death on the cross as we begin the season of Lent.
Considering Lent as a discipleship tool (begins Feb. 22 through April 6, 2023) | spirituallife@gisthailand.org
During the 40 day season of Lent, we consider the consequences of our sin separating us from God as well as the wonder of hope we have in Christ’s gracious forgiveness to all who come to him. The Spiritual Life Office, along with our Chapel Core Team students, will invite our GIS secondary students and their families to consider what we can subtract or add on in order to grow in our knowledge and love for Jesus. Stay tuned for more details coming soon! In the meantime, if you’d like to learn more about Lent, please visit this link to the Axis Parent Guide to Lent. If you’re a parent, consider ways you can observe Lent as well as inviting your students into a deeper awareness of their need for Jesus along with you!

MINISTRY CLUBS

On Friday, February 24th our TBD team will be visiting Hope House Children’s Home. During this time, students will spend the afternoon with their buddies who reside at the orphanage as they partake in fellowship, song & dance, games, and other group activities. TBD is a great opportunity for our students to demonstrate the love of Christ by offering their consistent presence in the lives of these children. If you would like to learn more about this ministry, please reach out to the GIS Ministry Coordinator Ryan Timlin at rtimlin@gisthailand.org.
Night Bazaar Evangelism | spirituallife@gisthailand.org

Students who have a heart for the unreached and want to develop their abilities of evangelism are encouraged to join us for NBE. Belonging Update⼁ds.office@gisthailand.org
Over this last semester, 2 parent ambassadors held a Belonging focus group on the topic of General Belonging. A focus group was conducted at Kwan’s Kitchen with about 10 parents attending. Parent ambassadors Sunghea Yum and Jonathan Broyles helped lead the discussion and this document is a summary of the insight from this meeting. The document includes topics that were discussed, suggestions that were shared, and a general summary of what some of the parents felt about belonging at Grace International School. We are grateful to the parents that joined this discussion. All of the suggestions have been shared with leadership and for the next round of discussion we would like to focus on equity and status. If you have any questions or anything you’d like to add to the discussion, please reach out to ds.office@gisthailand.org
