2021-2022 RECAP

Before we officially say goodbye to 2021-2022, here’s a small recap of how the school year went.

Our ‘First Day In Person at School’ was back in September, 2021.

Secondary had their ‘Art Chapel’ showcasing the students’ inspiration in February.

We can’t miss our ‘International Week’ and ‘Secondary’s Tiger Pride Week’.
It was the entire GIS community’s effort that brought this together.

In March, Elementary had their ‘Annual Book Parade’ and were dressed in their favorite book characters.

Elementary and Secondary then wrapped it up with their own concerts: Elementary’s Music Concert and Secondary’s Band and Choir Concert.

Finally, our last day of school…senior students graduated as the class of 2022 and the rest of the students will be starting to a new grade next year!

See you again on August 10, 2022!

ATHLETICS

This Week in Athletics | athletics@gisthailand.org
We can’t believe that we’re getting to end the year together in person. It’s been too long. A couple things:

FINALS WEEK:

  • All athletics facilities (courts, fields, fitness center, etc.) will all be closed during finals week

LOST AND FOUND:

  • Please come claim your items by Thursday, May 26th 4:00pm.

JERSEYS:

  • Please return jerseys by Thursday, May 26th 4:00pm to the Athletics Box

NEXT YEAR:

$$$

We wanted to give you as much of a heads up for financial things coming your way in the Fall as possible:

VARSITY ATHLETES:

  • ISB: If all goes according to plan, we’ll be back for ISB Soccer and Volleyball in September and Basketball in November
  • ACSC: there is a POSSIBILITY we will be able to start attending ACSC tournaments again (starting as early as October). In the past, ACSC has ranged from 16,000 to 30,000 baht depending on the location. However, with COVID and not a lot of travel these past couple years, we’ve noticed that there has been an increase in prices so please keep that in mind.

EVERYONE:

  • The JV and Varsity jersey process will be different next year. Each player will PURCHASE two sets of jerseys (blue and yellow) for volleyball/soccer (they have the same jerseys) and basketball — the cost is 600 baht PER SET (1,200 baht per sport). The plan is to keep the jerseys and use them until you/your athlete graduates or leaves Grace.
  • All cross country athletes will also be purchasing their own running bibs they can keep (price and details to come)
  • U8-U14 will be purchasing the same jerseys we already have in the uniform shop.

SUMMER:

  • The Fitness Center will be closed to students over the summer
  • To request athletics facilities usage over the summer (courts, fields, etc.) please email athletics@gisthailand.org

***There will be no nurses/medical care on site during the summer

If you have any questions, please email athletics.gisthailand.org

Have a happy summer!!

Educational Support

    #different not less #accept #understand #love

The core symptoms of autism are:

  • social communication challenges and
  • restricted, repetitive behaviors.

Symptoms of autism may:

  • begin in early childhood (though they may go unrecognized)
  • persist and
  • interfere with daily living.

Specialized healthcare providers diagnose autism using a checklist of criteria in the two categories above. They also assess autism symptom severity. Autism’s severity scale reflects how much support a person needs for daily function.

Many people with autism have sensory issues. These typically involve over- or under-sensitivities to sounds, lights, touch, tastes, smells, pain and other stimuli.

Autism is also associated with high rates of certain physical and mental health conditions.

EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT:

April is Autism Awareness/Acceptance Month!

Autism, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), refers to a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication. According to the Centers for Disease Control, autism affects an estimated 1 in 44 children in the United States today.

We know that there is not one autism but many subtypes, most influenced by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Because autism is a spectrum disorder, each person with autism has a distinct set of strengths and challenges. The ways in which people with autism learn, think and problem-solve can range from highly skilled to severely challenged. Some people with ASD may require significant support in their daily lives, while others may need less support and, in some cases, live entirely independently.

Several factors may influence the development of autism, and it is often accompanied by sensory sensitivities and medical issues such as gastrointestinal (GI) disorders, seizures or sleep disorders, as well as mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression and attention issues.

ATHLETICS

This Week in Athletics | athletics@gisthailand.org
Last week we had so much competing in our first official games of the volleyball season! Thank you to all the fans who came out to cheer, the parents who drove our athletes to CMIS and to the coaches for investing in our students.

However, we’ve got some bad news for the fans. After clearing up some misunderstandings, it was concluded that we are not allowed to have fans (except for students) at any home or away CMAC games. We are allowed to have fans at any games where we play Thai teams. So, for example, if you are here to watch a soccer game vs. a Thai team while our volleyball teams are playing a CMAC game, we ask that you respect our conference rules and try to stay on the field as much as possible.

We know that this isn’t ideal, but thank you for being flexible.
