Serving God Through Art

“When God started putting missions on my heart, I thought that I had to put my dream of teaching art away.” This was Kelsey McCall’s thought when God’s plan for the next chapter of her life started to unravel. Little did she know, God always had her passion in mind and had an amazing plan to combine her love of teaching art with Kingdom work.

Around that time, Kelsey’s mentor heard that Grace International School was looking for a secondary art teacher! With a heart full of both excitement and uncertainty, Kelsey took a leap of faith and arrived at Grace in 2017. “It was a very humbling first year,” she says. “But despite all of my struggles and self-doubt, God kept on reassuring me that He can use people regardless of their weaknesses.”

Kelsey has certainly been a blessing to the students at Grace, especially for those with a passion for art just like her. Not only is she teaching them the skills to be good artists, but through events such as Art Chapel, students are able to create works of art that bring glory to the greatest artist there is—our heavenly creator. Every year students will choose a theme that allows them to link their artwork back to God and present their creations in front of the student body during chapel. Other students get to take part through participating in different art stations after the presentations.

Kelsey sees it as a blessing to teach the students at Grace because “God keeps on reminding me that He is giving me this big responsibility to love His children and is constantly showing me how much TCKs (third culture kids) and children of international Christian workers mean to Him.”

It is because of passionate teachers like Kelsey that Grace can achieve its vision of having an inspiring learning environment where every student will know who they are in Christ and be equipped with a biblical worldview to impact the world.
